Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame

Cleveland had to lobby hard to play host to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Among other things it cited disc jockey Alan Freed's contribution to the new genre and the very term "rock and roll". Cleveland strengthened the argument with the fact that Cleveland was also the city that hosted the first ever rock and roll concert. Several other American cities were in the race, but finally Cleveland won and the April 1983 saw the birth of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland. However, after addressing all the teething troubles, it took a little over a decade for the museum to become a reality and opened its doors to the public in September, 1995.

Another significant reason that impacted the choice of Cleveland as home for the museum was perhaps the money that Cleveland pledged for the purpose - a cool sum of $65 million.

During your Cleveland Ohio travel, you will be able to appreciate the documentation on the entire history of rock and roll, apart from that of the inductees. Special exhibits have been created at the museum's spire in honor of the inductees.
